Last week saw the arrival of the first few reviews for Wreckage of Now. It’s fun when people get what you’re doing, and it’s even more fun when they clearly enjoy writing about it. This review of the single from Dancing About Architecture (great blog name) was awfully fun:
And if you are going to argue that all you can do when in the confines of the genre is re-invent the wheel to some degree, at least artists such as Jay Stott manage to add some fancy trims, rev the engine excessively and take that wheel for a spin round the block, ignoring stop signs and pedestrians, jumping the lights, leaving tyre marks on the road surface and generally annoying the neighbours. It is rock and roll after all.

It’s a crazy world right now, and if you’re like me your anxiety is running at about 115%. Add to that the smoke from wildfires here in Colorado which make it tough to be outdoors and I’m sure I’m not the only one feeling a little cramped. For me, music is a way to ease that a bit. I’ve really been digging Frank Turner‘s record from last year, Be More Kind. While Turner pulls no punches with his feelings about what’s going on in the world, there is something uplifting about his delivery, and a real sweetness in the songs. It’s making a difference for me, maybe it will for you too. He also just released a new record No Man’s Land, in which all the songs are stories of women (some famous and some not).
