If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to write, learn, and perform a song in less than three days, let me tell you. It’s a little intense.
I was at Song School at Planet Bluegrass last week (think camp for grownups with guitars). It was, as always, a magical week of community, creativity, some great laughs, and a little bit of learning. And, I wrote three new songs. So that was a very good week. One of them made it to the open stage on Wednesday night- meaning I wrote most of it on Monday, finished it on Tuesday, and John and Parry and I rehearsed and performed it on Wednesday. That’s an awfully quick turn around. We didn’t even make too many egregious mistakes.
This is what it sounded like…
Huge thanks to Parry and John for joining me for that ride. And to Ellis for the video. And to the Song School community for being a place where you can try stunts like this. Writing a song fast is not that unusual, but taking it to the stage that quickly is not my normal way. I do like to have the lyrics memorized and I sure wasn’t there, as you can see!
August is flying by-
Tomorrow (Thursday 8/15) I’m the featured artist at the open mic at South Boulder Speakeasy with my friend Greg J. I’ll be doing a 30 minute set in the middle of the evening.
I’m playing a mid-day set in Estes Park on Saturday the 24th of Aug at the Handmade in Colorado Expo in Bond Park (right in the middle of town).
And Saturday the 31st we’ll be rockin’ a set as a trio at High Hops Brewery in Windsor. They have an awesome patio- come join us.
Here’s the photo dump from Song School and Folks Fest- it was good.
